Select – once choosing my image and placing it into a new document in Photoshop I selected the whole image so that I could start editing.
Adjustments: To edit the strength of the overall image I used adjustments which let me change the levels and colour balance.
Levels: Levels was useful for making the natural colours of the image stronger which made them stand out more. For example, by using levels I was able to make the model’s hair darker and her clothes more radiant.

Lasso tool: I used the lasso tool so that I could select only the areas I wanted to edit. I used this for the material in the image so that I could make it brighter to a more gold colour without changing the colour of the model.

Curves: Once I selected the area with the lasso tool I used curves which I then adjusted to change the shades of the colour. By doing this the image looks less dull and relates more to the theme of my magazine as rich gold colours are associated with Asian culture.
Spot healing brush tool: Once zooming into the model’s face I used the spot healing brush tool remove any strands of hair that were out of place. This was useful for making the model look more polishes and neat.
Gaussian blur – I used this to blur certain areas of the image that I wanted to make weaker so that if I placed writing on top it would be more visible. I also used this in my main photo for my double page spread on the left side of the image where there was most of the rich material. I used this tool so I could still see the design and have writing on top of it that stands out more clearly, then faded into the back ground.
