draft and final double page spread

First draft double page spread:

This is the first draft of my double page spread.  I was happy with the overall layout with the model and title on one side with the writing going down the other side of the page. I thought carefully about where most of the attention was on the page and found that there was more weight on the right side of the page, which meant it wasnt consistent enough. I found that the model's arm worked as an anchor and the "T" in the title drew too much attention so I changed the words so that the reader's attention is equally across the page.

Another issue with this first draft is the two smaller images on the bottom left of the page. The colour didn't work well with the background of the image so I decided to only use on image but edit it further in photoshop to make it a gold colour to match the image. Not onlt did this add weight to the left side of the page it worked well asthetically to the overall page.

Second draft of double page spread:

I decided to edit the main image further by changing the colour of the background.

Final changes:
One thing I found difficult with my double page spread was the background. I used this image because I liked how the background was rich and suited the Indian theme well.  After editing the image several times to make the colours lighter I found that it was still difficult to see the main writing on the page. I decided to add a Gaussian blur and make the writing stick out more by adding a shadow to the object and increasing the opacity. Although, I still thought it needed work so I separated the image in two so that one side was black and white and the other was the original colour I edited for the background.  After that, I selected half of the page for the side with the writing and I used a gradient to  go from the gold colour to white. By doing this I still had the design of the background and white space which was useful for making my writing clear to see. I also used the stamp tool to recreate areas of the material in the background in the blank spaces where there was no writing so the page looked more fuller.

Finally, I decided to move the components around so that the white space was in a suitable place for the writing and the smaller image could be placed on top of the darker areas of the page.
